I’M BACK, PUNKS! (expect updates for the next couple days then I’ll vanish forever again)
This is Captain Alida’Chak vas Illyria nar Catharsis, my Quarian Smuggler-Captain from a Mass Effect-based Pen & Paper Role Playing Game a friend of mine built and ran based off the D&D Modern ruleset. I played through all three mass effect games since he started the campaign this June so that I would know what the heck he was talking about!
Her backstory was really fun; she spent her Pilgrimage at an Irish Circus, and brought back her human boyfriend as her gift, an Irish biochemist from Trinity, who wrote his thesis on the idea that a rachni-inspired virus could wipe out the Geth. However, little did she know that when she returned to the Migrant Fleet, her mother had long since planned an arranged marriage between her ship and another (the groom was to be another member of the party, Kati’Skali); and in bringing back her gift, the two ships splintered from the migrant fleet and engaged in a brutal 2+ year civil war in an asteroid field on the edge of Geth space. She was the only member to survive of her ship, thanks to the only surviving member of the mercenaries she hired (a different member of the party)!
The two were picked up by a smuggling ship, and ended up picking up a full crew, including mad unlicensed human doctor Jojo; an elementary-school principal off Illium; Kati’Skali, who challenged Capt Chak to a duel to the death, and was talked into becoming the mechanic instead; an Asari professor, with her now ex-wife Asari geneticist; and a Krogan master-chef, among others.
Nowadays, after defeating the evil villains and ending the campaign, Captain Chak spends her days with her Turian lover Dio Bractus (another player character from the campaign) as a pair of galactic Spectres, solving mysteries, making out, killing people, and dancing like dorks to old human records.
Here’s Lárallis Starshine’s map of the world we’re in, Scykaron, and its surrounding areas. It has many wonderful inaccuracies that the party is woefully ignorant of!
…i mean, uh it’s 100% accurate i promise
I’ve been running a D&D 3.5 game for some of my animation pals recently - and it’s pretty rad! They all got pretty into it so I’ve set up a tumblr where everyone’s posting some backstories, pictures, &c. It’s pretty dang rad, check it out at shadesofjuniper.tumblr.com !!!
This is their map they have purchased in game - I’ll post a more fancy and more accurate one in the near future (next week???)
I had the incredible fortune of getting to design and draw the map for my sister @thenorthwet's production of the play “Prince of Pears”, recently written by my double cousin @jakeschiffler! It’s currently running this weekend at the University of Washington, and is seriously so rad.
